This was really interesting – it’s incredibly hard to adapt a novel, especially a spy novel, into something the size of a play. It has to be about what you leave out, rather than trying to cram things in. However, the first act was chapter headings and a lot of walking in circles leading to many fewer people in the audience in the second act than there had been in the first. Those that stayed were in for a treat because this second act was super. It’s the acting that elevates this, the acting is 5 star. And without Ralf Little, this would have been stale as a soggy pancake to be honest – he elevated it and drove it with fierceness all the way through. I adore him – not going to lie, I’m so pleased he’s as fantastic a theatre actor as he is on the TV screen. Not all of them are. We’ll leave that there. I’d LOVED to have seen him do White Rabbit, Red Rabbit. I did joke to Andy that if he’d jumped off the stage and asked me to run away with him that Andy would have had competition..!
